Event Structure

The Freedom Road Rally is a touring event that provides its entrants the opportunity to relive the excitement of driving their original antique or classic cars through one of the most beautiful countries in the world. This is a controlled touring event that will require precision driving while maintaining a set speed. The event is designed to be a vacation experience for all participants and to create as much publicity for them and the fantastic vehicles that they enjoy. The most important requirement that participants must meet before entering the event is the desire to have an adventure and as much fun as possible. Each day combines a scenic drive during the day and then museum tours and car shows/celebrations with the local community in the evening. The driving portion of the event is primarily kept to back roads and state routes with speeds following the posted limit, usually under 55 mph. Participant’s vehicles must be able to perform at these speeds consistently throughout the day in order to participate in all designated stops and activities throughout the event. There will be a sweep vehicle that will follow the event in case of breakdown. Participants will cover an average of 200 miles per day. This provides the opportunity so see some absolutely gorgeous scenery while still having time and energy to enjoy the night stop cities, museums, and evening celebrations. After reaching the night stop, participants will have the opportunity to experience the local culture of shops, museums, and evening festivities with the local community. Typically there will be a community wide show in the evenings for participants and members of the community to enjoy the vehicles on display to have the opportunity to meet one another. Participants can take this opportunity to enjoy local restaurants on there own at this time. There are three stops throughout the day’s event; 1 for lunch and then 2 pit stops.

Each day participants will be given an instructions packet that will contain written directions of that day’s route, maps of both the starting and ending cities, a schedule for the day, and points of interest along the way. Instructions are in a list format with each line carrying one instruction and the distance to carry out that instruction. Participants are required to follow all routing instructions as stated in the Event Regulations. The instructions will also indicate locations for lunch stops and pit stops as well as times allocated for each. Lunch stops are usually 1 hour long with pit stops ranging from 15-30 minutes in length. Participants will be driving an average of 4.5 hours each day with the three stops throughout this drive.

One of the most important aspects of the Freedom Road Rally is the interaction of the participants with each other and the people along the way. Through the course of the week some fantastic friendships are formed between the participants that will continue long after they have finished the event. The people that are met along the way and the friendships that are formed are the most unique aspect of this event.
