Have you ever sat and thought about driving out on the open road, just you, your favorite vintage car, and maybe a friend or two? Or what about being a road rally driver in the World Grand Prix? Freedom Road Rally is an annual antique car touring event that provides its participants with the vacation experience of a lifetime. The event is a week long and will be running June 1-7 of 2008. Any vehicle pre-1974 that is "period correct" or original is eligible to run in this event. The participants will travel an average of150-200 miles each day on some of the prettiest back roads and state routes. The evening stops will incorporate transportation museums, private collections, and car shows or parties. The entry fee for 2008 is only $1,950 per car, wich will include entrance into the event for two people, one hotel room per night for six nights, admission into the museums and special activities, and the closing dinner.
The 2008 event will start and end in Charlotte, NC and will cover roughly 1,200 miles on some of the most scenic roads in the Carolinas. Participants will be traveling throughout North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee while on this vacation of a lifetime. Participants will have the oppurtunity to explore a variety of unique communities as well as a number of historic locations. The Carolina region is rich in both American history as well as automotive history. The event will be stopping at some of the tremendous museums that celebrate this portion of our past. In addition to these fantastic museums, participants will also enjoy a variety of lunch and evening stops that focus on the tremendous hospitality that these unique communities offer. Participants will also be able to enjoy evening car shows with local car clubs and enthusiasts.
The plan is to include a transportation museum into each evening stop with a private tour or a car show. The route stays primarily on back roads and state routes with speeds averaging 45-55 mph. This allows participants to see some fantastic sites during the day as well as still have energy to enjoy the evening stops. The overall style of the event will be set up similarly to the vintage European road rallies, where the overall goal is to enjoy the scenery during the day and to enjoy the festivities in the evening.
